Washington (CNN)A federal judge on Monday partially blocked enforcement of key provisions of President Donald Trump's memorandum banning transgender people serving in the military. The judge also blasted Trump's initial abrupt announcement via Twitter that came "without any of the formality or deliberative processes that generally accompany the development and announcement of major policy changes that will gravely affect the lives of many Americans." Justice Department spokeswoman Lauren Ehrsam said, "we disagree with the court's ruling and are currently evaluating the next steps." Ehrsam added: "Plaintiffs' lawsuit challenging military service requirements is premature for many reasons, including that the Defense [...]

This is not lost on Sony Pictures, which on Wednesday – the same day new groping allegations surfaced against Kevin Spacey – reportedly decided that the Oscar winner will be completely removed from his next film, All the Money in the World, and his scenes re-shot with Christopher Plummer in the not-insignificant role of J Paul Getty. In 2016, a “rogue” scientist from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU) led a shady offshore herpes vaccine research program, which broke numerous rules and regulations required for medical research. It's now feared this could put the SIU’s $15 million federal research funding at risk, according to a set of documents obtained through an FOIA request by The State Journal-Register. The controversy has also since brought in PayPal founder Peter Thiel, whose investment firm later invested millions into the project. The research, led by the late Dr William Halford, involved testing out an experimental genital herpes vaccine on [...]

Missouri is launching an investigation into whether Google has broken its consumer protection and antitrust laws. In a statement, the state’s attorney general, Josh Hawley, said that his office has issued a subpoena to the search giant earlier on Monday. A few weeks ago I met with, and interviewed, Alexander Nix, the CEO of Cambridge Analytica. His company has been credited with helping Donald Trump win the U.S. presidency. It’s also been associated with many other controversial political campaigns globally and accused by some of aiding the U.K.’s exit from the EU. He addresses all of these subjects in detail (a shorter summary is here). The interview, which was recorded, was conducted in private at the IT Arena conference in Lviv, Ukraine. This is the transcript of the interview, which was 50 minutes long: Mike Butcher (MB): You think that [...]
